Business Appreciation 2008 Award

"Out of the Gate Running"

The "Out of the Gate Running Award" is given to a new business  that has been managed well, attained a successful first year and has significantly contributed to the community.  

 

St. Paul’s School Athletic Hall of Fame

The following nominated individuals were selected for induction in 2008.

 

Michael (Mickey) A. Harris (1983)

Attended 9th thru 12th grade.  Football letterman 4 years.   Selected MVP of school football team, 2 years; All-Parish 2 years, All-District 8-AAA, 2 years, MVP All-Parish and All-State on Offense, 2 years. Rushed for 1278 yards and 15 touchdowns on 253 carries.  Track letterman 3 years.  Selected MVP track team (field).  Parish Javelin Champion.  Set new school shot put and District 8-AAA shot put record.  Signed an athletic scholarship with LSU.

 

Scott Ainsworth (1979)

Attended 9th thru 12th grade.  Track letterman 2 years.  Set new school record in mile and 880 yards run and as member of mile relay team. Placed 2nd in 880 yard run at State Meet.  Placed 1st in 880 yard run at NORD Meet of Champions, New Orleans.  Set new stadium record at the Texas-Louisiana-Arkansas Meet of Champions in Shreveport, La.  Ranked 6th nationally in the 880 yard run.  As Junior, set new school 880 yard run record.    Basketball letterman 2 years.  Signed an athletic scholarship with LSU.

 

Nilo Silvan (1992)

Attended 9th thru 12th grade.  Football letterman 2 years.  Selected All-American, All-State, All-District, All-Parish and All-Metro.  As Junior, Selected MVP All-State, MVP All-District, All-Parish and All-Metro.  As Junior, placed 2nd in 100 meter and 200 meter run at State Meet.  Selected MVP All-District and MVP All-Parish teams.  Basketball letterman.  As Junior, selected All-District.  Did not play senior year due to foot injury.  Presented school Jimmy Dunn Memorial Award.  Signed an athletic scholarship with University of Tennessee.

 

Michael (Mike) L. Dugger (1973)

Attended 9th thru 12th grade.  Football letterman 3 years.  Selected Captain.  Selected All-District, Defense and All-Parish Offense and Defense.  Lead the Wolves in rushing and receiving.  As Junior, selected  All-District.  Member of team that shutout Covington and Slidell.  Basketball letterman 3 years.  Selected co-captain.  Selected to All-District team.  Selected to All Tournament teams at Covington and Mandeville Tournaments.  Track letterman 3 years.  Set new school record for the 440 yard run and new school record as member of the 880-yard relay and mile relay teams. Placed 1st in 440-yard run at Parish Championship Meet Sophomore, Junior and Senior Year.  District Champion 440 yard run at the District 8-AAA meet.  As Junior, set new school record for 440-yard run and school record as member of the mile relay team.  Was selected the schools best all-around athlete and awarded the Jimmy Dunn Memorial Award. Signed an athletic scholarship with Southwestern Louisiana University at Lafayette.

 

Raymond B. Maestri Sr. (1947)

Attended 9th, 11th and 12th grade.  Track letterman 3 years.  Member of track team(s) that won the Riverside League Track & Field title 4 years straight and the State Track & Field Championship, Class B Division, 3 consecutive years.  Set school and Riverside Meet 440 yard record.  Lead team in scoring in winning Riverside League title. Set State record in 100-yard dash for gold medal.  Set State record as member of 440-yard relay team for gold medal.  Set State record as member of football shuttle relay team and 880-yard relay team for gold medals. At State, placed 1st in 440 yard run, for gold medal. Placed 2nd as member of mile relay team.  Football letterman 2 years.  Mr. Maestri returned to St. Paul’s as a teacher and coach for the junior grades during the early 1950’s.

 

David N. Griener (1970)  *Deceased

Attended 9th thru 12th grade.  Football letterman 2 years.  Selected All-District 6AAA,  and All-State.  Outstanding overall player and athlete in all sports.
