When is the Best Time to Go Running?
Some of you might still wonder what is best, running in the morning or the evening. You might have an issue to find the right time because of the overloaded daily schedule, and you might wonder what is best.
I used to ask myself this question too and just to find out I only had to put it to the test. And guess what? There is no right answer. It is totally up to you to decide.
Benefits Of Running in the Morning
When I started running 6 years ago, the primary reason was to increase my energy level, I wanted to be able to get through the day without feeling tired. So I before to change my diet, I started running with my old Asics GT 2000 shoes.
I woke up at 5:30 am every morning, jump into my running gears. I went for a short 30 minute run just enough to develop the stamina level on a daily basis but not too demanding, as I didn’t want to be exhausted before my day has even started.
And the great thing is that it helped me to be first awake when I had to work and was able to have a much higher energy level during all day.
What about a Mid-Morning run?
As I work as an independent consultant, I have the chance and advantage to have a pretty flexible timetable. So it happened to me lots of time when I had the time in the middle of the morning to go out for a run.
One of the things as a consultant is that sometimes you have some project where you need to use your creativity to solve a problem. And when you are running out of ideas or having what we call the blank page syndrome.
The best remedy I found was just to go out for a run and being able to empty your head and have a kind of a reset. After what I was always able to find the solution to solve my problems.
I think if you do a job where you need to be creative; early morning and mid-morning are the best time to let flow new ideas and prepare yourself mentally for the next big project you want to work on.
Running in the Afternoon
Personally, I don’t like to run in the afternoon, maybe because it gives me the feeling that my day is not over yet. But when I am in a stressful situation and for some reason, I am having a hard time to focus on the tasks I have to do, then the best thing for me is to hit the road and try to empty my mind as much as I can with a good run.
Enjoy a good Evening Run
Now here is one of my favorite time of the day for a run. Simply because when I had a very busy day, this is the moment of the day that I’ve been waiting for and so excited to go out for a run.
It gives me the possibility to make a great transition from my work to my private life. Mainly because I work from home and sometimes it can be a real challenge to go from work mode to relax mode.
So running in the evening become a ritual enables me to review my day, the things that I’ve achieved. To consider the things that I should have done and then have a clear vision of the things that I have to do.
And once I’ve through all this then I can simply let go of my work and focus then on the moment, the joy of running and pay attention to the beauty of the environment.
And for you? What period of the day do you prefer and why?
